What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin, fillers work by attracting and retaining moisture to hydrate and plump the treated area. Results are instant, with subtle, natural enhancements tailored to your unique features.

Treatment Time

30–60 minutes

(depending on areas treated).

RESULTS TIMELINE

Immediate improvement, with optimal results once swelling settles

(around 1–2 weeks).

DOWNTIME

Minimal, most clients resume normal activities immediately, though mild swelling or bruising may last 2–5 days.

RECOMMENDED SESSIONS

Usually one session, with maintenance every 6–18 months depending on the area and individual.

PAIN LEVEL

Mild to moderate discomfort; most fillers contain lidocaine for comfort.

SIDE EFFECTS

Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising. Rare risks include infection, allergic reaction, or vascular compromise (all explained in consultation).

Pre-Treatment Care

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours before treatment, as these can increase the risk of bruising.

  • Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or other anti-inflammatory medication (unless prescribed by your doctor) for at least 48 hours prior, as these can thin the blood and increase bruising.

  • Pause supplements such as vitamin E, omega-3, or ginkgo biloba for one week before treatment, unless otherwise directed by your GP.

  • If you are unwell (cold, infection, or feeling generally unwell), please contact the clinic to reschedule.

  • Ensure the treatment area is clean — avoid active skin conditions such as cold sores, acne, or infections at the site.

  • Eat something light before your appointment to reduce the risk of feeling faint during treatment.

  • Plan ahead — swelling and bruising are common; allow time for these to settle if you have an upcoming event.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the area for at least 24 hours unless instructed by your practitioner.

  • Do not apply makeup for 12 hours post-treatment to reduce infection risk.

  • Keep the area clean and avoid unnecessary contact.

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours, as these may increase swelling and bruising.

  • Sleep with your head elevated on the first night to help reduce swelling.

  • Do not expose the area to extreme heat or cold (sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms, ice packs) for at least 1 week.

  • No facial treatments (e.g. massages, microneedling) that uses pressure for 2 weeks.

  • Mild bruising, swelling, or tenderness is common and should settle within a few days to a week.

  • Contact the clinic immediately if you experience severe pain, skin discolouration, or unusual reactions.

Where Can Dermal Fillers Be Used?

  • Enhance shape, definition, volume and symmetry while restoring hydration and softness. Fillers can also smooth fine lines around the mouth (often called “lipstick lines”) and create a natural, refreshed appearance.

  • Restore volume lost through ageing, create lift, and improve overall facial balance. Cheek fillers can also help soften the appearance of nasolabial folds by re-supporting mid-face structure.

  • Define and contour the lower face, strengthen a weak chin, or create a sharper jawline. This treatment is popular for improving profile balance and reducing the look of jowls or sagging skin.

  • Smooth the deep lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth. By restoring volume in this area, fillers reduce the appearance of heaviness and create a fresher look.
