In some cases, excessively strong muscles may require a higher dose of treatment. If this is necessary, an additional charge for a top-up will be discussed and agreed upon during your consultation. Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein used in medical aesthetics to temporarily relax targeted muscles. Results are usually visible after 4–7 days, with full effect at 2 weeks. The effects typically last 3–4 months, after which treatment can be repeated. A review appointment is often offered at 2–3 weeks to assess outcomes and make safe adjustments if required. Treatment usually takes 10–15 minutes and is performed using a fine needle. Discomfort is minimal, often described as a quick sting. Most clients resume normal activity straight away. While treatments are considered safe worldwide, possible side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, or headache, which usually resolve quickly. Less common effects such as asymmetry, drooping, or flu-like symptoms will be discussed during consultation. Pre-treatment advice * Avoid anti-inflammatories (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen), alcohol, fish oils, garlic, Vitamin E, and herbal supplements such as Ginkgo or St. John’s Wort for 3 days prior (unless prescribed), as these increase bruising risk. * If prone to bruising, arnica may help. * Do not attend treatment if you are unwell or have an active skin infection, including cold sores. * Inform your practitioner of any medical or medication changes. * Avoid scheduling treatment within 2 weeks of an important event in case adjustments are required. Post-treatment advice * Avoid rubbing or massaging treated areas for 24 hours. * Stay upright for 4 hours after injections. * Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, swimming pools, and extremes of heat or cold on the day of treatment. * Do not apply makeup for 12 hours to reduce infection risk. * Cleanse gently on the evening of treatment. * Avoid facial treatments such as fillers, peels, microneedling, or facials for 2 weeks. * Mild redness, swelling, or bruising is normal and should settle within days. * Contact your practitioner if you develop visual disturbance, severe or increasing pain, redness, or swelling.
