Hay Fever Kenalog Injection
Doctor led aesthetic clinic, west midlands
What Is the Hay Fever Injection and Who Is It Suitable For?
Kenalog® (triamcinolone) is a long-acting corticosteroid injection that may be offered to selected patients with severe seasonal hay fever whose symptoms have not responded adequately to conventional treatments such as antihistamines, nasal sprays and eye drops. Because corticosteroid injections affect the body as a whole rather than just the nose or eyes, they are reserved for carefully selected patients after other treatments have been unsuccessful.
By reducing inflammation throughout the body, the injection can help relieve symptoms including:
• Persistent sneezing
• Itchy, watery or swollen eyes
• Runny or blocked nose
• Fatigue caused by poorly controlled hay fever
Kenalog® is not considered a first-line treatment and is not suitable for everyone. At MPower Clinic, treatment is only offered following a thorough doctor-led assessment to ensure the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
For suitable patients, symptom improvement typically begins within 24–48 hours and may last for several weeks, often covering much of the peak pollen season.
How Do I Know If I'm Suitable For Treatment?
Every patient undergoes a comprehensive medical consultation before treatment.
We'll discuss your hay fever symptoms, previous treatments, medical history, current medications and any conditions that may affect your suitability for corticosteroid treatment. Alternative treatment options will also be discussed where appropriate.
We offer both 40 mg and 80 mg doses of Kenalog®. The 40 mg dose is recommended for most patients and is our usual starting dose. An 80 mg dose may be appropriate for selected patients, such as those with particularly severe symptoms, a larger body habitus, previous limited response to 40 mg, or those who have historically required the higher dose for adequate symptom control.
The most appropriate dose will always be determined on an individual basis during your consultation.
Is There Anything Important I Should Know Before Booking?
Kenalog® is an unlicensed treatment for hay fever in the UK. Although it has been used for many years to manage severe seasonal allergies, its use is based on careful clinical judgement after discussing the potential benefits, risks and available alternatives.
As with all corticosteroids, Kenalog® carries potential side effects and is therefore not suitable for every patient. Your safety will always take priority, and treatment will only be offered where it is considered clinically appropriate.
Please also note that Kenalog® has been discontinued by the manufacturer in the UK, meaning availability is currently limited. We have a small amount of stock available whilst supplies last.
