Your appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your medical history, any previous skin conditions, family history of skin cancer and other factors that may influence your individual risk. We will also discuss any changes you have noticed, such as a mole that has grown, changed in shape or colour, become itchy, painful or started bleeding.

You will then identify the mole(s) or skin lesion(s) you would like assessed. Each lesion is carefully examined using a high-resolution dermatoscope, a specialist imaging device that allows detailed visualisation beneath the skin's surface. This enables a far more thorough assessment than examination with the naked eye alone and helps identify features associated with both benign and potentially cancerous lesions.

Following your assessment, the findings will be explained clearly, and you will be advised whether the lesion appears reassuring and benign, should simply be monitored, or requires further specialist review. If appropriate, benign lesions may also be suitable for removal using cryotherapy during the same appointment.
